Severn Trent water supplies stretched??

Severn Trent water has been reduced to offering to donate £1m
to charity if their customers can reduce their consumption by
150 million litres before year end??
Apparently water usage has gone up by 300m litres since
lockdown and the recent hot dry weather!??
Do they mean we are washing our hands too much now?
If so it illustrates just what a narrow line we humans are treading
now with our excesses in every direction?
I expect this trend to continue country wide this year unless
mother nature comes to our rescue?
Could we change to ashing our hands in beer as the pubs are
shut now??

I keep saying it! Why don't they build underground reservoirs or even water based wildlife lakes, waterparks to syphon off water from rivers when we have floods.
Does anyone listen? Nope!

That's probably because that costs money and would undoubtably mean less profit for shareholders. Anyway, that would be going against everything this country stands for, muddling along in all areas seems to be the name of the game!

Water shortage have already been forecast in some parts of the country for this year,
as long ago as October 2019:

Re: Severn Trent water supplies stretched??

Severn-Trent is spending shedloads on new pipework to make sure its supplies from the reservoirs in N. Wales aren't lost due to leaks. Not only that but, at long last, it is also spending money on repairing leaky supply pipes in roads in a bid to save water. We've had engineers from ST working in and around Worcester city centre for months now doing this work.

Having said that, I am not at all surprised that our water companies are asking us to be careful with our water usage especially when it comes to watering lawns. There is really no need for that because grass recovers very quickly once it starts raining.

Plenty of water here in South Yorkshire......
Perhaps Yorkshire Water might send you some if you ask nicely....

Don't worry, this is England and in a couple of weeks time we'll all be bailing out the garage and wishing for some fine weather....

Could be a good idea OGF? Glad to hear you have plenty of water!
The point l was trying to make though was that water usage has
gone up above normal for this time of year by 300 million litres
of water??
And they think it is related to corona and the hand washing
advice among other things???

It seems this is already happening in some areas, someone somewhere
has had their thinking cap on:

Or we could just wait as you say OGF, there will be rain and lots of it somewhere – it might even be where it's needed!

Nottingham council is supplying some areas with free bottled water!
as some have either no water at all or low pressure!
I noticed a couple of neighbours were filling their kiddy pools over the
weekend, could this have raised the consumption excessively?
