Could it be that the UK is a net contributor to the ESA, just like to the EU?ESA’s activities fall into two categories – ‘mandatory’ and ‘optional’. Programmes carried out under the General Budget and the Space Science programme budget are ‘mandatory’; they include the agency’s basic activities (studies on future projects, technology research, shared technical investments, information systems and training programmes).
All Member States contribute to these programmes on a scale based on their Gross National Product (GNP). The other programmes, known as ‘optional’, are only of interest to some Member States, who are free to decide on their level of involvement.
You don't like to be a net contributor? Why not leave ESA? You pay 1,8 bn (in 5 years)and get back only 100 mln.
Look at the picture beneath. Do you see that the EU pays 23% of ESA's annual budget?

Oh for God's sake Solasch, just stop with the stirring will you? I don't suppose for one tiny second, your brain (that you must consider to be as large as a planet but I consider to be as small as a pea) has considered that the UK has far more technical and theorectical infrastructure already in place to make this opportunity a perfectly sensible one, even if, as you like to remind us, we will be contributing money towards it. (I would like to bet that ESA accounts have all been signed off though, unlike your glorious EU's accounts).28-06-2020, 04:16 PM

Its about investment...... and it being outside the EU and inside the UK like most foreign investment in Europe.

So europe invests in the UK. The 2500 jobs are provided are provided for by british firms as you state in your post 14. Yeah, that's investment.....
