The rise of Type 2 Diabetes.

Hi

I came across this, I found it quite scary.

Time to alter my lifestyle more I think.

Re: The rise of Type 2 Diabetes.

There was a Panorama programme on last week called
'Diabetes The Hidden Killer'
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07yklv8
.. it was really shocking to see the number of teenagers and young people who now have the disease and the number of people being referred for gastric bypass surgery as a preventative measure. Worst of all the wards full of amputees

A few weeks ago my BIL (who had a heart attack two years ago) was diagnosed with T2D, he has managed to avoid medication by modifying his lifestyle basically eating and drinking less. Since retiring he works as a part time gardener as well as growing all his own vegetables and he plays bowls so gets regular exercise.
So once diagnosed it is possible to keep the condition in check .

Hubby was diagnosed with T2D a couple of years ago and was put on medication.

At his yearly meeting with the nurse he found he had lost over a stone and a half since last year and had the best results ever. They are keeping him on meds for now but if it gets better again this next year will look at reducing them.

We have been going walking a lot this year and he managed to lose the weight without really noticing.

Re: The rise of Type 2 Diabetes.

Are we really all so much more likely to have if now or are we being tested more do they find it ? I can't remember my grandparents having so many blood tests and looking back I'm pretty sure my grandad had type 2 he just hadn't been tested for it. 6 sugars in each cup of tea and he drank 8 cups a day ! Annoyingly he was thin as a stick too
