With the algorithm, there was a faceless computer program and a government to blame for bad gradings. Now teachers are going to do it who are known personally to students and parents. I'm not so sure that's a good thing. If a student still doesn't get good grades, there'll be someone local to confront about it ..hopefully politely.

This is true.

On the plus side, it might actually help in the future if pupils/students are aware that their teachers might have an input into their final grades. Could help focus minds somewhat.

TBH I suspect that it was always the case that teachers' grades were going to be used, but this was never made public in order to prevent parents exerting pressure (and in some cases possibly bribing) schools and individual staff.
