"A face like a Lurgan spade."
This is an expression I heard in N.Ireland. A Lurgan spade is a spade with a long narrow blade, hence having a long face / being gloomy.

"Shooting the moon" = leaving a house overnight to avoid paying rent.

"A blind man on a galloping horse could see it!"

My grandmother always used that one and it used to confuse me as a child (I couldn't work out what a blind man would be doing riding a horse in the first place!). Of course it makes sense now, but it's still a rather strange saying!
