Yes there is.

The weight of a given quantity of a liquid depends on the specific gravity of the liquid.

The specific gravity of a liquid is the ratio of the density of the liquid - to the density of water at 4 deg C.

That is why most oil floats on water, it has a lower specific gravity and (as an example often used) carbon tet sinks because it has an SG of around 1.6.

nb all the world hates a smart arse and as most physicists are smart arses - go figure!

Welll I still think it's daft and I agree with Tabby's opening question.

They'll be selling petrol by the kilogram next!

I didn't say "liquid" I said "fluid", please be more careful next time.

All liquids are a fluid but all fluids are not a liquid.

That is partially true because the use of the word fluid can also be applied to the characteristics of a substance such as in the case of a fluidised base combustion system.

However when fluid is used as a noun and describes the "phase" of a material, most have three phases, it's a different thing entirely.

The context in which you used "liquid" was plainly as a noun.

Did it have a Specific Gravity of 0.834.

I don't think the gravity is very specific. It just falls downwards unless there's a very strong wind blowing.
