https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/13...migration-bill

Sources close to Home Secretary Priti Patel say “there is a real danger” that Remainer peers block the immigration bill for a third time on Monday. The move would be almost unprecedented because the unelected Lords usually allows government legislation which was in an election manifesto to pass after its amendments are initially rejected or accepted. But it is understood that peers, who are overwhelmingly anti-Brexit, are using amendments on asylum put forward by Lord Dubs as an excuse to hold up the legislation.

In a sign of the anguish in government circles about the “political games” being played by peers, Home Office source said that if Lords move to block the bill again the Home Secretary “will go tonto”. No idea what that means but hope it is extremely painful.

The source said: “We don’t know where they are with it but there is a real danger they will send the bill back to the Commons again.

“That means that it will not be possible to end freedom of movement with the EU in time for the end of transition and you have to wonder if this is the real motive given that we have a separate asylum bill coming soon which Lord Dubs can try to amend.”
This is conspicuous treachery. Imbeciles.

Furious critics have had enough of the House of Lords and are demanding it be scrapped or at the very least, forced to undergo dramatic reform.

It's an interesting one - and it's another thing that really ought to be getting far more coverage in our media than it actually is; further evidence of media bias for the EU.

Two things though:

1 Although the HoL can "ping pong" and delay they absolutely can not prevent the bill passing if Boris is determined that it will.
The bills may have to wait for a year or they might somehow be reworded or otherwise sorted, time will tell.

2 Even the insular out-of-touch HoL must know the public feeling regarding these bills following not only a referendum but a decisive General Election.
They certainly know the mood of both the government and the people in wanting substantial reform of the HoL.

So part of me really hopes the House of Lords does go ahead and interfere with the bills because TBH it's going to prove the end of them if they do, and far faster than might otherwise have been the case.

Re: Boris, You REALLY ARE The Weakest Link.

We have a House of Commons which is elected by the people and, consequently, tends to follow the will of the people.

We have a House of Lords which is effectively self-appointed and, consequently, tends to follow the will of its own members.

Simple question: are we living in a democracy?

I certainly hope so.

I wonder whether we, the ordinary electorate, will be given a say in the matter.

Only via our choice come election time I suspect, though I'm hoping Boris sticks to his guns.

I've said before that if he doesn't we will still get our say because the way it's looking now, if Boris fudges Brexit & the rest it's pretty obvious that Labour aren't going to be an effective proposition either.
Farage on the other hand - well we all know what an effective campaigner he is.
Who would bet on him not getting into power if things don't change?
Not me.

Not especially, at least not according to any meaningful measure.

Globally ranked #14 here: https://statisticstimes.com/ranking/democracy-index.php

but #25 here: https://theduran.com/countries-ranke...cracy-in-2020/

Re: Boris, You REALLY ARE The Weakest Link.

Boris may have got a few things wrong this year but did he:

- Organise illegal raves?
- Tell everyone to fill up the beaches during the summer?
- Your friends round to your garden for a BBQ?
- Tell thousands of people to protest for weeks about an incident in the USA?
- Tell all the pub goers to congregate outside in large groups of fight after the pubs closed?
- Uncle Tom Cobley and all to not wear a mask and tell everyone to piss off if he was challenged about it?

It strikes me as being very funny how some people are quick to blame one person for this mess we're in, and not the minority who did any of the above.

Re: Boris, You REALLY ARE The Weakest Link.

Do the members of the House of Lords really know how the public views them? If ever one wished to witness how a London bubble could be described, one only has to witness this shower and their goings-on inside that House.
These crusty old farts probably do not even have an inclination of the strength of feelings of absolute disgust towards them by we, Joe Public in the outside world. They are so cocooned in their cosy ermine covered world, how could they?

They certainly wouldn't read about such in papers such as the Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, Daily Express etc. Their read without fail are newspapers such as the The Times, Financial Times, and perhaps for some of them, the Telegraph or Guardian (just to show their brethren that they are down-to-earth while tripping over their ermine robes.). All media that pays lip service to their cosy little kingdom.
They mix with their own, they socialise with their own, they may just occasionally leave their cosy tax-paid for London bubble to visit their country pile. but that is it!! They feel nothing for the ordinary person in the street. They feel no loyalty for the ordinary person in the street. Again, why should they? They never have any cause to meet them face-to-face, so any vote that goes against what we voted for, to hell with us.

They have absolutely no qualms in quashing anything to do with Brexit and its benefits for this country, Brexit is the bogeyman that interfered with their lucrative little world in the EU, so any way in which they can block, spoil, prevent or even put a stop to the Government in their endeavours to proceed with doing what is in the best interests for this country after December 31st, forget it! this vile, unelected shower of useless flotsam will do their utmost to do just the opposite, with their EU pals cheering them on all the way.

I truly wish Guy Faulkes was still around.
