Headphone knowledge ????

Is there anyone who has knowledge about headphones ???

I am very hard of hearing and I MUST not only use closed captioning but also headphones.

In the past I have always been happy with Koss headphones, a relatively low priced headphone set. However, I see many other headphones on Amazon.com, BOSE for example. Is the price worth the upgrade ???

I have read that to more copper coils in any speaker the better the sound and , of course, the price rises.

Any increase in clarity would be a big help for me.

Any help gratefully received.

Re: Headphone knowledge ????

Suppose a lot depends on the input volume of sound into the headphones. Too much and any will distort the sound . Also I suppose one has to consider pitch as well, too deep a sound can be just as annoying as one that is too high.

Comfort wearing headphone is just as important . If they clamp to tight to the ears or too loose is annoying.
Ok now on what are you listening to? a radio- computer music etc.

I on a computer I have on mine

asus xonar audio center software

which can be downloaded free

link

https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C...sclient=psy-ab

even allows for headphones

this might help as you can adjust quite a bit

thank you for the post.
Does that system work for TV's and stereos ?

Right now I watch/listen to mostly TV/and movies.
Audio goes from TV to stereo and out to headphones.

Re: Headphone knowledge ????

The problem with headphones is that you need to find the 'one' that is right you YOU. I have damaged hearing and for years upon years been searching for a pair of headphones that was compatible with my range of hearing problems. When living in Shropshire, I was lucky enough to live near a town that had 2 excellent hi-fi shops (Shrewsbury) and back in the day both shops would have rows of headphones on display that people could test out. They would go from the ridiculously cheap to the ridiculously expensive. What I learnt from that experience is that when it comes to someone who has damaged hearing, the more expensive a headphone does not mean the best one suited for you. Both shops would constantly change out old models for new and that's when I found the right pair for me. A Sony MDR-1R. At the time was very expensive (over £200) but I waited for the right priced one to appear on ebay .

I listen to a lot of spoken word audio and music on my ipod and the combination of ipod audio electronic parts and the MDR-1R is perfect for me. As an extra if ever I need to I have an M-Audio Bass Traveller headphone amp which gives me an extra level of audio boost if i ever needed it.

The MDR-1R provide a full over the ear fit which I like. They provide clear crisp sounds and not too heavy on the bass. I like classical musical so being able to hear the musical instruments properly is very important to me.

Now, like with the suggestion of the Sennheiser brand and mine with the Sony MDR-1R, you could purchase them and find that they are not suited for you level of hearing problems. The best person to ask in what to look for is a hearing specialist. Again I was lucky to live not far away from Shrewsbury's Ear Eye and Throat specialist hospital and when I had my hearing tested, I asked the specialist what type of headphones would suit me best and he showed me a chart of where my hearing was faulty and thus what sound frequency ranges suited me best. Took me years to find those Sony headphones and I am glad I did

Re: Headphone knowledge ????

When my ex took a hike with the kids when I lived in Italy, I went out and splashed a few hundred squid on a pair of studio grade over-the-ear Sennheiser head phones. They were stunning in their comfort and musical reproduction. Regrettably, a few months before Val and I returned to the UK, we had a break in and the barstewards took them along with all of V's jewelery, ~250 squid we kept as a reserve, video player, and other stuff. I've never got round to replacing the head phones with like-for-like.

Hearing is a puzzling thing. My hearing is generally better than my partner's yet she can hear sounds that I cannot. For instance our fridge/freezer has a warning sound when a door is open which she can hear clearly and I don't, yet she needs the volume on the TV turned high. Something to do with sound waves I am told.
