Not going well for Trade deals.

The people have told the politicians that they would rather walk away from a US trade deal than see lower foods standards.

Seems the public don't want an an American trade deal!!!

Hi

Indeed it is not going well for Trade Deals.

The Brexiteers in Government have not delivered on a Single Promise they made.

A bunch of complete wasters in my opinion.

The only positive thing is that it would be even worse under Corbyn's Plans for Brexit.

The worst case Scenario is voting Green, which you advocate.

Regardless of with whom we have trade deals, no one is making anyone buy goods, we have a choice as we do now.

I choose not to buy salads currently on sale and grown in Egypt and Senegal, I will wait for the home produced salad to become available and eat what is local and seasonal instead.

Re: Not going well for Trade deals.

The US have made it clear that scrapping and lowering EU standards will be a condition when we go cap in hand to them for a trade deal. Not just chlorinated chicked and mlk from cows with infected udders.....

http://https://unearthed.greenpeace....-infected-cow/

....but also labelling, animal welfare, restrictions on pesticides and cosmetics, bio-fuel crops, and protection of names of geographical origins, like cornish pasties and cheddar cheese.

It won't be easy to avoid or get round these. The foods will be in other things we buy, processed food, bread, sauces, restaurant and take-away. Avoiding them would be hard work and post-Brexit poverty mean people have to buy what's cheapest.

Labelling will be less informative, animals less protected, copies of local food sold under the same name.

And we'll have to accept all this to get a trade deal. Leaving the EU will leave us so desperate for trade deals that we have to accept almost any conditions and the push for profits lead to lowering standards, and not just with the US.

And the lower standards will be entirely the fault of those who voted Brexit.

If we are paying the bill we will set the standards despite al the negativity stirred up by Remainers otherwise we will look elsewhere. the customer is king don't they say.

Chlorinated food stuffs are sold and purchase everyday in the UK now.

Some of us are more discriminating in what we put in our mouths and object to being poisoned by Chlorine, but if you don't mind, go right ahead and poison yourself.

The UK won't get a deal with the US unless we accept the lower standards. And because of Brexit, we can't afford to reject any deal the US offer. They've got us over a barrel, thanks to the Brexiteers.

And it's not just about chlorinated chicken, there are also all the other standards they want dropped, such as not using waste meat from abbattoirs in animal foodstuffs and labelling information.

I believe bagged salad is offten washed on chlorine, what other foods contain it?

The only thing you can be discriminatory about putting in your mouth is which foot. Many of the foods we buy today have been prepared with a weak solution chlorine better that than salmonella. If you go for a swim in the public baths You wallow in it.

Re: Not going well for Trade deals.

Come on; be fair - we've talked about this before. Trade deals take years to put in place.

It took 2 years just to get agreement to be able to start to negotiate a trade deal with the EU.

The negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement were held between 12 countries between 2008 and 2015 (ie 7 years) then Trump came in and scuppered it before it even got started. So even signing a trade deal is no guarantee it will happen because any party can pull out unilaterally.

It would be no surprise to find that you have no trade deals when Brexit actually happens and no one's fault either. Surely you don't want to accept a very unsatisfactory deal negotiated in haste?

These arguments about trivia like chlorinated foods are exactly why your membership of the EU was crap for you, by concentrating on the trivia you never took any advantage of the benefits it offered. All trade deals are a compromise and the advantages are not in the minutiae.

Hi

I agree, Trade Deals are very complex and do take years to negotiate.

It is not for the UK to dictate the terms or the timescales.

We have to negotiate with others.

What other Countries want from a Trade Deal may well be very different to what we want.

Everything we agree to has to be costed, no point in destroying jobs here and having to put up the Benefits Bill.

Trade Deals are not just about Tariffs, that is the easy bit.

It is non Tariff Quotas and schedules which are the vital bits.

An example, this is the list of things Trump is putting Tariffs on with the Chinese as part of round two of his Trade War.

https://assets.documentcloud.org/doc...esentative.pdf

It is just a minor list of everything we have to go through on a Trade Deal.
