the tragedy that is Laos and the rest?

I lived and worked in the Far east and mixed socially with UK building managers - they told me some very disturbing tales of having to knock back bribes to weaken cement mixing.

this stood out for me

Construction of the $1.2bn Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy power project - a network of two main dams and five subsidiary dams - involved Laotian, Thai and South Korean firms.
it's all about kick backs not safety

very common in SE asia but improved in Singapore; HK and S Korea - you just can't have ya buildings falling down all the time - especially killing people!
