Verging on the melancholy there Mr Fox.
As far as modern walking footwear is concerned I'm more than happy to bow to your experience. The last time I went running I had Blakey's on my plimsolls.

To cut a long and not particularly interesting story short, I recently received a catalogue in the post from a surplus store. Lo and behold... dubbin!
Ironically I don't have a use for it anymore.

Ha ha yes, I remember being made to run in all weathers in my plimsolls.
It may surprise you to know Westender that I hated the cross country at school, I was a late developer and took up running at 27 years of age to cure a hangover.....I've been running ever since, it just sorta became a habit...

Remember the plimsolls that had elastic instead of laces? They were real objects of desire. I was a poor athlete as a kid. Weedy and asthmatic.

I'm not surprised at all. The very thought of lifting weights filled me with dread and horror until I was thirty two. A bit late late in the day perhaps but I threw myself into it with great enthusiasm. Life can be strange.
Not that I've executed a seated dumbbell press for years.

The real cool plimsolls were the black high top style basket ball variety from Woolworths. They had a little rubber circle/ bumper on the inside of the ankles.
