NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern covered herself in glory with her considered and calm speech immediately after the event (unlike some people on this forum).
"For those of you who are watching at home tonight, and questioning how this could have happened here, we -- New Zealand -- we were not a target because we are a safe harbor for those who hate. We were not chosen for this act of violence because we condone racism, because we are an enclave for extremism. We were chosen for the very fact that we are none of these things. Because we represent diversity, kindness, compassion, a home for those who share our values, refuge for those who need it. And those values, I can assure you, will not, and cannot, be shaken by this attack.
We are a proud nation of more than 200 ethnicities, 160 languages. And amongst that diversity we share common values. And the one that we place the currency on right now -- and tonight -- is our compassion and support for the community of those directly affected by this tragedy.
And secondly, the strongest possible condemnation of the ideology of the people who did this. You may have chosen us -- but we utterly reject and condemn you."
No I'm not .
( and I have been to both countries several times)

we will always stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters - many of you here in this web do not seem able to do - talk about 'an eye for an eye' - how does it feel to lose all your compassion?
Words fail us at such times, but New Zealand should know that we weep with them. In whose name and on whose behalf do the brutal perpetrators of this abominable crime believe they are acting? Send messages of love and support to your nearest mosque. stephen fry
The Queen "I have been deeply saddened by the appalling events in Christchurch today. Prince Philip and I send our condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives.
and many more - we all stand together in solidarity against such mindless acts of violence and we learn to deal with multiculturalism in our own unique ways.
No there hasn't Annie and you are quite right in saying the perpetrator is suffering from a form of insanity. Unfortunately technology supplies the ability to carry out hate. Both in weaponry and in communications. To see the love and compassion displayed to those affected, by those not of an Islamic pursuasion is most encouraging. I can see from some of the posts above that some might be inclined to support some kind of revenge.
Petulant comment.
Pointing something out does not mean you support it.
