Laundry advise, Please!

Having decided to redecorate the lavatory it seemed logic to also equip it with some new towels. InSainsbury's this morning I found some lovely fluffy, Egyptian cotton, hand towels - no restriction on quantity so bought half a dozen.

Given that I live in a 'hard water' area - how do I keep them soft and fluffy? Have been told not to use fabric softener as that stops the absorbancy.

Any advice gratefully received.

Maybe that's what's wrong with my towels as I use fabric softener, though our water is soft.

Sorry Tabby, not much help - I'm like Tiff, I live in a soft water area too.

I put softener in mine every other wash or every 3rd wash. Depends.

TBH I don't like them too soft and fluffy, I like a bit of rough

Re: Laundry advise, Please!

That's a great tip in the link Mups, putting half a cup of vinegar in the wash, or better still, do them again with a full cup. I'll tell Mrs Fox, but she will probably refer to grandmothers and eggs....

Mrs Fox doesn't use fabric softener on the towels, but it's like getting dried on parchment, and contrary to popular belief, my skin is quite delicate....

Re: Laundry advise, Please!

When I bought a new washing machine a few years ago, I gave up using fabric softener, which encourages the growth of black mould, and switched to using Dri-Pak products:

Sadly, though, achieving that new-towel softness still eludes me.
