Re: 5 to 7 portions of fruit and veg

Today I have eaten potatoes, carrots, onion, cauliflower, apple, orange and a banana. Another day I might only eat chips (potatoes). To eat 7 portions EVERY day is not going to happen.

I've eaten potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and onions. Not keen on fruit really, apart from bananas.

My intake of fruit and veg today has been lettuce, tomato, cue, pepper, radish, onion (small bit), beetroot .... apple, grapes and strawberries. I don't eat potatoes.

It does sounds a lot Stella but the salad portions are small and nowhere near what would be classed as a full portion

Well I will be having a stir-fry tomorrow and there's plenty of mixed veg in that - not enough to class each veg as a portion though.

The bit of the report I heard said that it's vegetables that are the most beneficial for health, followed by fruit, but fruit juices are practically worthless healthwise..

Re: 5 to 7 portions of fruit and veg

I generally have at least 4 veg a day. That includes potatoes and onions. I like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots best. I don't really eat fruit anymore. I like a banana now and again and will eat a few grapes but I don't eat a lot of fruit at all.
One persons comment on this you must eat so many a day was -
"they are complaining that there are too many old people around and
now they are telling us to eat 7 portions a day to keep us healthy.
I wish they would make up their minds "
So just a thought there for you.

With my Steak & Kidney pud on Monday I ate: 3 carrots, 3 parsnips, 1 large potato. Later that afternoon I had, a banana, a nectarine, a pear and an orange.

Re: 5 to 7 portions of fruit and veg

We have had salad for the last three nights as well as apple, mandarins and pineapple, so I think we have been having the 7 fruit and veg a day. The only reason we have had salad three nights on the trot is because otherwise it tends to go off and you end up throwing it away, and we cannot afford to do that.

I agree fruit and vegetables are not very expensive, I used to buy a lot more fruit than I do unless it is on offer.
