Joking aside I do not like all the `waffle` on some programs but my volunteer driver and getting close to being a friend was on Egg Heads-seems they are told to ramble a bit before giving the answer. It makes us feel clever.

The waffling is meant to make the Eggheads appear cleverer because they answer straight away.

I always thought that the 'Waffling' was to make the programme more interesting to the viewer and explaining things that we probably didn't know. Most of the 'Eggheads' are past or present world champions, I don't think they need to 'bull themselves up' They are very clever, or at least, they've got extremely good memories. It's a bit like my old maths teacher used to say. "I won't necessarily mark your sum wrong if you give an incorrect answer, as long as you show the working out and that is correct"
