Re: Food shopping: Do you check nutritional content?

Funnily enough, I always check if I'm buying for Mrs LDs but hardly ever if its for me.

With allergies I read every label carefully they slip rape seed oil and chilli in so many things you wouldn't expect them in. I scan calories and sugar too. But for me it's the things likely to send me into anaphylaxis I really concentrate on.

I always do but don't buy anywhere near as much packaged stuff as I used to.

The ones I check for are
Salt
Carbs
Sugars and artificial sweeteners
Fat, saturated and unsaturated
Calories if all the above are ticked healthy ...
Just to make sure I haven't missed anything

I check some things, but not all. If I have not bought something before I always look. I have a rough knowledge of most things I buy regularly anyway and hardly ever buy any pre-prepared meals.

I must be the only one who doesn't bother ... if it looks naughty but nice it goes into my basket.

I agree with you Mort, in fact I purposely avoid anything low fat.

Re: Food shopping: Do you check nutritional content?

The first thing I do is look at [saturated] fat and calorie content. Then I skim the ingredient panel to check for partially hydrogenated oils. If that ingredient is in there, back on the shelf it goes. The rest of it doesn't matter.

However, if the trans fats aren't in there, then I look at other nutritional values.

No I dont, because all of my meals are made from scratch. I never buy ready meals, cakes or biscuits (make my own). The only tinned goods I buy are tuna and sardines.
