Teeth Cleaning.

Do any of you clean your dogs teeth? I've never had to do it with any of my previous dogs, Dageus has got the most vile smelling breath these days and I wondered if tooth cleaning would help. He doesn't have any toothache or anything in the mouth that shouldn't be there, in fact his teeth are lovely and white.

Re: Teeth Cleaning.

Personally, if it's that bad, I think I would get mine checked over by the vet Roxy, just to be on the safe side.

There are several health concerns that can cause bad breath, so it is not always a dental problem, so brushing wouldn't make any difference.

Oh Ok Mups, thanks. Think the Vet is to be here to see one of the horses on Friday. I'll have a wee word with him.

Good idea. I don't want to worry you, but better to be safe than sorry.

I clean my cat's teeth regularly - you can buy special paste and brushes in any pet food store - cheaper than from the vets.

Re: Teeth Cleaning.

Hi Roxy,I have been cleaning my jacks teeth for three yrs now,he has had two operations in the past,to remove rotten teeth,my vet reccomend I brush his teeth,I do this every other day,his teeth are perfect,I bought the toothbrush from the vets, don't use a human toothbrush, the toothpaste I use is,LOGIC,Oral Hygiene Gel,lasts for ages.
You can also get sachets of LOGIC oral hygiene, where no teeth brushing is involved.

My two love eating that stuff, apparently it tastes like chicken apparently although I have never tried it. They will not let me brush their teeth but at least some of it gets to their gums.

Re: Teeth Cleaning.

I brush Teddy's teeth once a day if possible. I can't get into the inside of the mouth very much and do the fronts and as much of the rest as he will let me, but the vet said to keep up whatever I am doing. Some breeds are more prone to decay than others and he's one of the former.
