Licorice Drinks

I send away for my moisturisers, and when the little package came the other day, they had put a free sample of a drink in for me.
It says on the satchet - "Three Licorice - a sweet song of nourishing organic licorice from Kazakhstan, Pakistan & Egypt."
You have to infuse it in freshly boiled water for at least 5 minutes.

Not sure if I fancy it or not. Has anyone ever drunk licorice?

Re: Licorice Drinks

How strange, Mups, I would not have thought of making licorice into a drink. I have had licorice cheese - but I was in Pontefract at the time!

Do let us know what it is like.

Re: Licorice Drinks

Pernod and Ouzo are both licorice flavoured. I think a warm version would be rather nice. And it is supposed to be good for the digestion, I think.

I used to drink Pernod and i would have said it was more aniseed flavour? But i've just now checked and it does say Licorice...

Aniseed and licorice taste pretty much the same, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Re: Licorice Drinks

I love the flavour of licorice/aniseed ( Absinthe is anther drink which has this flavour )

I would not drink your sample though Mups

It says on the satchet - "Three Licorice - a sweet song of nourishing organic licorice from Kazakhstan, Pakistan & Egypt."
...it could contain all number of things

That crossed my mind too, Meg.

(Pastisse is another drink with similar flavour.)

They're both Anise-flavoured orangutan but pastis has liqorice flavouring and so does Ouzo.

I got plastered on a Greek ship off Dubai once.

I had to check-out a boiler repair for them with ultrosonics a dye penetrants and it only took a short while but they insisted on giving me a meal and a drink - or three - and it was Ouzo.

I was poured of the gangplank onto the crew boat two hours later and cannot remember anything else to this day! stevmk2
