You know the type...the legs go a little way down the thigh, doing away with the need for 'bikini line' worries, iyswim, and the bodice is reasonably well upholstered!

Haven't been able to find one.
Try www.unique-vintage.com they do retro/40s styles in all sizes.
Some of their suits are ghastly, but the halter- neck is very 40s and the leg shape is not high...

Ooh! Thanks! I'll look into those!
It all depends on the 'corsetry'. I need a lot of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Re: Suitable Swim Dresses

Finally a topic I know a little about.

The first step in shopping for swimwear is to drink a glass of wine.

Then consider:

Swimdresses:

The swimming dresses are great for women on the beaches down here who want to be on the beach - walk, sunbathe, wade into the water. They look great but they are indeed impractical for swimming, surfing, or other really active water activities.

If you like the idea of a swimdress, but want a more practical suit, this style is an option:

Boy shorts:

Pyxell mentioned wanting a longer leg on a suit. My daughter and I, along with the other women who surf and paddle board, seem to prefer this style when not sunbathing (weird tan lines). Great coverage and no constant tugging. If you prefer a one piece, try searching "boy short one piece" as you search term. If you want to adjust the sides, look for ones that have side ties. Try a pair of boy short bottoms with your favorite top:

Retro:

There are many forties styles out there right now that have higher waists. These look adorable on the younger women and teens. Search "retro swimwear" or "vintage swimwear"

https://www.modcloth.com/shop/swimwear?sz=101&start=0

Springsuits:

These are made of thin neoprene, but are lighter and more flexible than wetsuits. Plenty of coverage with a little extra warmth. They come in sleeveless and long sleeve styles. I love mine:

Performance swimwear:

There are sportier styles that provide good coverage and support. Athleta carries a whole line of options. Search "athletic" or "performance" swimwear.

Flattering suits for older women: (though a few of these wholly impractical and downright odd):

Surfernom!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I was about to order that cute green one when I realized that the skirt would be up in my face in no time which would annoy me needlessly. It’s nice beachwear but not swim appropriate.

Ok you ladies were right.
Booo! It’s impractical but luckily we have plenty of selection right here. You ladies totally rock.
This is awesome.

Gotta get ready for a jazz concert.
I will search through these and comment on them later.

Yayyy.
Thank you again

Pyxell - I must show that to the Craft Club meeting here this evening. We have several expert knitters. Just let us know if you are hankering after one

I regret I have no need of a man's bathing suit!
