Re: has the price of your house fallen?

Bratti I can relate to here. Bought our house for $185 K in 1997. It's worth a lot more than that now and it's 95% paid off. So I guess we have nothing to complain about.

That’s the same year we bought our house. Cool. Ours is almost paid for also.

I don't understand house prices at all, here people are going mad but we all paid £66,000 in 1989. By 20012 the flats were worth £125.000. Now they are worth £100,000 and people are raging. They still are making a profit so stop moaning I say.

It's a home not an investment.

I agree Julie. A while ago when several of the c lose family members moved to Melbourne we were toying with the idea of moving down. Melbourne is a fantastic city and we were stressing over our house value but we decided to stay put and we couldn't care less now. Our son will probably still live here after we're gone so it's a keeper.

It will probably matter to my kids when I am gone though. They'll inherit it.

We paid £4,300 for ours new in 1969. 2 bedroom semi detached. Currently the asking price for similar houses in our street is £185,000. We still have our original neighbours.

Re: has the price of your house fallen?

Apparently properties in my borough have gone down by over 6%. Probably why I got a bad valuation on my flat. Seems I chose the wrong time to sell.

Ours has dropped considerably(according to the above link), thank goodness we don't plan on selling up. It has gone down by £24,000 but who cares it will go up again, and still worth a lot more than we paid for it.

When prices bounce back up it will definately be a load more than the present reduction.

I honestly cannot see houses going on the market so often at the moment, house owners will be sitting tight until this dip ends

2 doors down the people who moved in not long ago are now in negative equity
Why? what does the value of your house matter as long as you have no mortgage? Whether it is worth $100 or $1000000 it will cost the same to buy another, it's actual value is meaningless. Investment properties are a different matter but the house you live in? Nah!

The only figure I know is that I paid $47000 for my shack nearly 40 years ago (and paid it off within 9 years) since I bought it I have absolutely no idea of its value or any price fluctuations. The only people the value will mean anything to are my kids when I am past caring.
