The two are not linked.

The more you and others stop the more that the effect of continued abuse of OUR environment by others the more it will be mitigated.

Better not light the barbie this year Bruce
Again another daft strawman argument but ignoring that, it gets worse - we export nearly 400million tonnes of coal each year so 'our' carbon appears in the carbon figures for other countries.

Our current government has absolutely no policy on climate change and is using accounting tricks and previous government's achievements to meet Paris commitments. It scoffs at states that over achieve in renewable energy but tries to take the credit for it internationally

Australia is the worst-performing country on climate change policy, according to a new international ranking of 57 countries. The report also criticises the Morrison government for being a “regressive force” internationally.

The 2020 Climate Change Performance Index, prepared by a group of think tanks comprising the New Climate Institute, the Climate Action Network and Germanwatch, looks at national climate action across the categories of emissions, renewable energy, energy use and policy.

We need more people like Greta Thunberg and less people with silly excuses.

Not one? Not even the Greeting one?

Of course it is. It is refuting a suggestion that wasn't being made - the very definition of a Strawman.

What has this got to do with Greta Thunberg being Time Person of the Year? or indeed anything that she says? Absolutely nothing.

Dinosaurs were great at adaptation too. They were around over 160 million years. We started out around about six million years age. Dinosaurs, as a species, may have been so long lived because they never figured out how to destroy themselves. We have.

That she does not acknowledge the great strides already made.

Don't be so premature Savvy, the human race is a long way from being finished yet, despite what Greta and the media are trying to brainwash you with.....

Dinosaurs were big, but in the end, just reptiles. Today there still are reptiles, but the capacity of reptiles to adept to environment is limited (being cold blooded).
Human life is to be found in almost all environmental extremes. So if we destroy our present way of life, no doubt somehow, somewhere humanity will live on.

I wonder when greta will tell her peers they have to give up their mobile phones etc. to save their world.....

Re: Greta Thunberg - Time Person of the Year

IMO Climate change will happen no matter what Greta Thunberg or anyone else says. No matter how many trees are planted, How many fossil fuel factories are shut down, How many petrol/diesel driven cars are abolished climate change will take place. We are being told things like 'Since records began' For goodness sake climate change was going on millions of years before anyone decided to keep records. Millions of years ago the whole of northern Europe was covered in a miles thick layer of ice. What caused that to melt? Climate change of course and there were no Greta Thunbergs about then to blame man for this as there were no men about at that time, So who would she have blamed. The dinosaurs for eating too much greenery and releasing deathly gasses in to atmosphere?
No, We may be able to slow it down but change it? Never.
Living creatures living on this planet in the future will adapt, in spite of what the doom merchants are saying.

Re: Greta Thunberg - Time Person of the Year

I still find it incredible that there are people who are in denial that at the VERY least mankind's activities are making climate change VERY much worse than it would be if it was simply a cyclic thing.

As for Trump, about the only thing that I criticise him for is his attitude towards anthropogenic climate change and even worse that he perceives exploiting fossil fuel as being a good thing.

Future generations, probably the kids being born today, will curse us for what we don't do despite the now blatantly obvious effects of carrying on regardless

But there is another thing to consider.

Let's assume that there is only a 0.01 probability that what we do is accelerating environmental harm but that clamping down to stop what only has a 0.01 probability of causing harm has a probability of 1.0 of causing no harm surely to goodness the sensible thing to do is to do what has a probability of 1.0 of causing no harm?

Or is that too sensible?
