The problem with Rhyl is that it has become a dumping ground for social failures and druggies from Lancashire.
Oh dear Swimmy, have to agree about Rhyl. 50 years ago when I was a teenager, Rhyl was THE PLACE to go, it was packed out at the fairground and the beach was gorgeous.
Unfortunately, as you say, today it is depressing, rundown and neglected. HWMO used to accompany Fire Service Engineers to inspect their work as they carried it out. They had the contract with most of the Councils and he used to hate it when he had to enter the flats and houses there. He said it was mostly a case of ''Wipe your feet when Leaving!!'' it was so bad. Rhyl really is a place where the dregs of society now seem to have settled. Very sad.
Wrexham, 18 miles from here, does indeeed have a reputation of ''Don't go out after dark''. They have one of the largest poverty-stricken council estates in Wales. Because of numerous council cuts, the saying even goes that Mum's there live off energy drinks so their kids can eat!'' Isn't that dreadful?.
