Don't know about the auburn gene: mine and my Dad's both very dark brown. Unfortunately, also thin and rather limp.

My Mom had a lovely thick head of light brown hair but went prematurely grey by 30! I never knew her with anything but grey hair.

Both my parents had very fine hair and mine is doubly fine, which is a pain!

Thanks for your views Folks.
I regret to say my dear old Dad died on Monday morning and was buried on Thursday. As I have often said he was 93 but as sharp as a pin and never complained, he was also a great friend to us and he will be sadly missed.
He had gone into Hospital last week for some tests and was due home on Friday, but he caught the dreaded Hospital death bug and that was it. He died peacefully with his Family at his bedside.

I am so sorry to hear your sad news Jemflux. It must have been quite a shock for you and your family - the only consolation, if there is one - is that he did not have to spend a long time in hospital. My condolences to you and your family.
