Dictionary

Following on from the Handwriting thread, do you own a dictionary?

We have six in our house, ranging from my old, tatty school dictionary up to a big modern 1,000 plus pages one with illustrations. The latter is my favourite! One or other of them are often in use as both my husband and I are crossword addicts.

We also possess a Thesaurus and two French dictionaries.

Re: Dictionary

We have dictionaries, but I always say my OH is cheating when he uses the dictionary for crosswords - I maintain that you should do crosswords without resorting to a dictionary - just a thought

Re: Dictionary

I love dictionaries. Don't like to use the Spell Check on a Computer. I find that by actually thinking about the spelling of a word or it's meaning, and then taking the time to look it up, helps greatly in remembering it!

I must admit I usually use the spell check as I am lazy!

Re: Dictionary

I love dictionaries and still have one that was given to me when I was 11 years old. It is called Words and it is brilliant. Also have thesaurus, dictionary of quotations, etc.
I understand they are not going to publish the Oxford dictionary any more because of the increased use of the computer - shame.

I love dictionarys but last time we moved loads of stuff went missing and among that was a box of cookery books and my 3 dictionarys. I have never got round to replacing it either.
