Audrey darlin' - its Russian as you've no doubt discovered, but I think instead of being the Russian equivalent of Mother, I believe its the Russian equivalent of GRANDMOTHER.

There you go, Uncle J beat me by a few seconds again.

If I knew how to touch type that would not happen so often.

Re: Name calling

I was Treacle Pudding at school, cos it rhymed with my name, then Twizzle, then Lump by my 1st wasband, Poohbear by my 2nd, Twiz by my sisters, Mumsy by my daughters, Ma'am by my SIL, Teri by workmates. Now my sister (not the nice one) has called me The Matriarch!
I shall strike a pose and say "I am The Matriarch" sounds good to me!

I thought Babuska was grandmother in Russian.. yep.. just googled

http://grandparents.about.com/od/Gra...randmother.htm

But we are not of Russian descent.. In High German it's Grossmutter.. in common German... Oma Or Omi..meaning granny.

Re: Name calling

I thought Kate Bush - was singing about 'grandmother' too
I like Omi or Oma .... not so much Grossmutter as I read it as 'Drossnutter'
Not very flattering is it .....

Re: Name calling

There's this I found

The most widely used word for how to say mother in Russian is “mama” - мама (MA-ma). This term is one used by people of all ages in both speaking to and about their mothers. The formal way to say mother in Russian is “mat’” - мать (m+ought). This way how to say mother in Russian can perhaps be a bit too formal for some people. “Matushka” - матушка (ma-TOOSH-ka) is a more polite and slightly old-fashioned variation. The most tender ways of how to say mother in Russian are “mamochka” - мамочка (MAM-och-ka) and “mamulya” - мамуля (ma-MOOL-ya).
So How did my kid learn Russian??? lol!

IMO none of the German language is very flattering.. Sounds like constant throat clearing like getting ready to spit..
