Why does the brain remember?

Absolute trivia

I can still remember my Co-op divvy number!!

It was 1386. Mum's was 802 & Grandmas 2057.

Also I remember the number plate of the first car I rode in as a child. It belonged to my friends brother and it was GJB 293.

Nowadays I can't remember a lot but these I will never forget.

Anybody else remember numbers from the past?

Re: Why does the brain remember?

I remember our phone number at the house where I lived up until the age of 15, and the one at our next house where we were for 6 years.

I struggle with all other numbers, inc. my current home phone No. and I don't know my mobile No., NI No., bank details ....

Re: Why does the brain remember?

The brain , as we all know remembers everything in it's memory. Some things more than others but it is a testimony to our lives .
Every good deed, every bad thought, even down to the words we write .. all recorded .

Can still remember my parents phone number and many other phone numbers. Many of them I cannot recall though, possible because there has been no need to do so. I do think that as we get older certain things come back to us .

Taken the original middle paragraph out of this as I see you only want trivia.

Re: Why does the brain remember?

Your childhood phone No. is used as a security question in this digital world. Something only we know, can't be guessed or googled, and something we are unlikely to forget as our parents told us not to.

Yes it is strange isn't it? Can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday but I can remember my first phone number (Folkestone 52063) from over 50 years ago and for some obscure reason my UK National Insurance number OCUH xxx (I won't put the number because it might still mean something) and my first car rego in the UK - ACH 112

Re: Why does the brain remember?

31601 and 21708 were two phone numbers my parents had.

All other numbers I can't remember, except my current one.
