Toddler dies after 'slipping from grandad's arms' and plunging off cruise ship

Sounds like stupidity on behalf of the grandad

A tragic accident, I feel for the family.

A bit harsh of you blaming the Grandad when you don't know the full facts.

There are various news articles covering the story.

They say he hung the kid out of a "window", which I don't really understand as cruise ships don't have opening windows. I wonder if they mean a balcony rail.

Either way doing so is a cruising 101 No No. You are told at every muster drill (which is compulsory for everyone before the ship sails) that you must never climb onto a ship rail or allow kids to.

If the grandad did that then he is greatly at fault. Most likely will not be allowed to cruie again.

Not sure he'd want to, if it was an accident, or otherwise.

The key is in those few words, Realist.
IF the grandad did that.
They were already wrong about having a window open.

Maybe be best to wait till the true fact emerge.

How sad .....

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/07/08/u...rnd/index.html

The 18-month-old girl was playing with her grandfather in a dining hall on deck 11 of the Freedom of the Seas, Port Authority spokesman José Carmona said. The dining area has large windows, and one pane was open.

The grandfather sat the girl in the window and lost his balance, and the girl fell to her death. "Sadly, she died on impact," Carmona said.

Another side to the incident:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-48927911

Attorney Michael Winkleman, of the Miami-based law firm Lipcon, Margulies, Alsina & Winkleman, told the BBC in a statement that Chloe's grandfather did not drop her, but she fell from an open pane that should have been closed securely.

Chloe and her grandfather were playing in a water zone for children on the ship, Mr Winkleman said.

"Chloe wanted to bang on the glass" as she did during her brother's hockey games when she fell out of the window.

He said "her grandfather thought there was glass just like everywhere else, but there was not, and she was gone in an instant".

"The family needs answers as to why there would be an open window in a wall full of fixed windows in a kids' play area? Why would you have the danger without any warning, sign, or notice?"

An awful tragedy, just hope the family can be strong enough with the support of friends, neighbours and work colleagues to keep them together and not tear them apart.

This is so gut wrenching I can hardly read it. What a terrible tragedy. The child looked so spunky and full of life. My heart aches for this family.
Poor tiny soul.
