This thread has nothing to do with God!or me answering your ignorant question.

Re: Tragic Cruise Ship Accident: Toddler Dies

Police Press Office statement here:

https://www.primerahora.com/noticias...njuan-1351524/

Bing Translation:

"The circumstances in which the events occurred Are investigated The authorities continue tonight with the investigation of the three-year-old incident in which a minor of one and a half died after falling from the tenth floor of the cruiser Freedom of the Seas Royal Caribbean, docked at Pan American Pier II in San Juan"

The facts were reported at 4:27 p.m., the Police Negotiated Press Office confirmed.

"It's an American family where Grandpa peeks the girl out of a window. the girl falls to the precipice and dies... Right now (the Division of) Homicide is on site; the family has not been interviewed. It is a very strong scene, very unfortunate and tragic... at one point, one of her grandparents, apparently, in a playroom, exposes the girl to the void and falls out of her hands," detailed Department of Public Safety Secretary Elmer Román.

The secretary of state, Luis G. Rivera Marín, also came to the boat to help with any paperwork

According to preliminary information, the little girl fell from a lower balcony to the deck, hit the boat and hit the pavement. Witnesses immediately heard the roar of the blow and heartbreaking cries of a woman warning of doom.

The family of the child from the state of Indiana, composed of paternal and maternal grandparents, their parents and an older brother, among others close to her, received medical and spiritual assistance, Román added as she lamented the situation.

Part of the cruise ship's crew, as well as the passengers, were moved to an area far removed from the incident in concluding the investigation of the painful scene.

In the afternoon, the ship's captain - through the loudspeakers - offered his condolences and announced that they would depart with a delay. It was not specified at what time they would set sail, as the authorization of the relevant agencies was lacking.

Prosecutor Ivette Nieves was conducting rigorous interviews with the passengers who observed the sad scene, and the relatives who were present and will be making arrangements to occupy the ship's security cameras as evidence"

Going by that report, the grandfather is an idiot who ignored safety instructions that would have been given at the muster drill. I imagine he will be considering his life choices right now.

Re: Tragic Cruise Ship Accident: Toddler Dies

Coverage by Metro here suggests the grandfather didn't dangle the child out of the window but instead slipped. Even so it's pretty impossible to accidentally throw anyone over a high ship's rail so that doesn't sound like a reliable story imo.

https://metro.co.uk/2019/07/08/pictu...-her-10133933/

"Initial reports claimed her grandfather, named as Salvatore Anello, dangled her from a window, but South Bend Police Department have since said that this is not true. They said Chloe slipped from his hands after he lost his balance, WSBT reported."

Better updates here

https://www.cruiselawnews.com/2019/0...m-of-the-seas/

"July 9, 2019 Update: “Her grandfather lifts her up and puts her on a railing and where he thinks that there is glass there because it’s clear, but it turns out there was no glass there,”the family’s attorney tells NBC Today show via USA Today."

There's a more interesting report here where the family try to set the record straight:

https://miami.cbslocal.com/2019/07/0...m-cruise-ship/

Here they are saying THERE WAS an actual open window in the kids play area and that the grandfather put the child on a rail there thinking there was glass.

I find that pretty unlikely as on every cruise I have done, which is well over 30 now, the glass windows are always streaked with dirt and sea salt and other stains despite regular window cleaning. I just can't see how you could mistake there being no window there with glass.

Either way you just don't put kids or anyone else on ship's rails. Clear safety rule outlined in muster drills.

Of course we shouldn't ..but it's called human error!.

I am quite sure many of us have done silly things...but then in a spilt second it can become a tragedy.

That poor family...how they must feel is unimaginable .

Re: Tragic Cruise Ship Accident: Toddler Dies

I strongly expect that the real story has yet to come out. On board CCTV will doubtless set the record straight but likely hasn't been released yet.

Breaking established rules is not human error. It is either irresponsible action, or a mental/health related issue.

It is tragic, but a tiny life has been lost nonetheless. Parents and grandparents have an enormous duty to keep innocent babies and kids out of harms way. Those people have failed this young child.

I don't believe the story being peddled at this point. It's implausible.

I suspect the truth will out soon enough.
