Buying new Toys (Echo, Blink, Hive, Nest, etc)

Have you been buying any of these new "toys"?

I can't resist playing with new technology.

I have numerous Amazon Echos, which play music and answer quiz questions, all round the house.

It also turns light sockets on and off, on request from anywhere.

I have a Hive heating controller which lets me turn the heating back on, or up and down, when I'm about to go home after golf.

I have a Blink camera systems so that I can see who's at my front door if I'm away on holiday, etc.

Great Hobby, not highly expensive, but the fun soon wears off?

Where will they go next?

Can't wait!

Fills the time for an old retiree!

Hi

I have google Home, Alexa 8 inch, Hue and various others.

My son is here now, so getting them all sorted and integrated.

He has been in Taiwan for 4 years and horrified by the prices here and how far behind we are.

We have a large package full of goodies arriving from one of his friends there.

Import duties are minimal.

Re: Buying new Toys (Echo, Blink, Hive, Nest, etc)

My son gave me a Google Mini for Christmas. It just sits there, I rarely talk to it, infact my smart TV, which also listens to me, is far more useful. I can tell it to go to a certain channel, Netfix or Disney + or even my server.

Actually my sound system is controlled from a tablet which is handy, it also operates with my TV (I like the better, louder sound) but it means I can sit in the garden listen to music or the wireless on the second set of speakers without having to get up to adjust the source or volume.

The Google Mini is really superfluous though sometimes I ask it to tell me the time or how far Easter Island is from the Bikini Atoll.

I feel your pain, nesting thermostats sound worse than paper wasps and as for carp they are totally inedible and a pest.

I haven't got one d00d, but don't they do those bluetooth speakers now. I could do with a pair myself because I listen to Youtube a lot and bung it from my laptop through the big amp in the lounge.....Wires and plugs and stuff, and you can only adjust the volume etc from the lounge.

I bet 'Bose' do a set of Bluetooth speakers if you've got a kings ransom to spare....
