Barry, Thanks for your tip but this taste is even there on the first boiling.
I read, it’s to do with the lubricants and chemicals used to coat the inside of the kettle, to prevent rust. Even after several boilings you never get rid of the horrible taste in the water.

I won’t buy a plastic kettle either, as l can taste the plastic.

The last place I lived the water was so hard I slung my clogged up, chocked-up-with-scale kettle away every year and just bought a new cheap one.

A nice tasting cup of tea here Arty, we always use a glass kettle. But well done on your fix, I'm well impressed....

Morti, You could’ve saved yourself some money if you’d done a little repair job, like de-scaling it.

Mags, I don’t usually de-scale my kettle, as first, l never think to and secondly, l’d be worried it would taint the water after.

Luckily, it was just a loose thin layer of limescale around the pipe. I was able to peel it off.
