Basically tough. Means exist to get support while arrangements are being sorted out. Free food centres are a self fulfilling "need" that are politicised in spades.

There is no point in arguing with people who think that benefits are some kind of gift.

luckily people who have generosity of spirit still out number the Scrooge's with their Victorian thinking who still move among us

Todger, yeah - stupid "crisis" loans which gets repaid off whatever meagre benefits they get, so its still not enough to live off! Hence they have to use foodbanks. Is that what you meant by being politicised? Its a never ending cycle that could be managed so much better. But I would rather have foodbanks than see my kids starving, politics or not.

The moment that tax payers were providing anything other than the bare necessities of life to what the recipients WANTED rather than just what they NEEDED - then the DIFFERENCE became a GIFT.

Child allowance is intended to ensure kids do not starve. When a parent uses that portion of their income on themselves then that parent is literally taking the food out of their kids mouths.

That is a matter of opinion and in any case is a fairy story. More to the point in Victorian times there WAS no tax payers money diverted to those in need. Today there is. Even those in need because of their choice of lifestyle.

Re: Food bank trolley

I don’t think that dropping a couple of cans of beans in the trolley is particularly altruistic but it is charity .
I am not sure what socialism has got to do with it .
We are a socialist society we take care of those in need no one starves on the streets in the U.K. .

Socialism is a fundamental fault line in ANY society. The only reason for preventing starvation is to minimise the chance of revolution. It's a dog eat dog world that works best on that basis.
