Re: Why do you think Trolls Troll?

I've just been reading this thread. I had to laff at some of the comments and banter.

"Why do you think Trolls troll ?"

I'm not really sure, but I suspect that they need to get a life. Perhaps they are too bored with the life they've got, so they try to mess up a thread to test out a reaction and give them a bit of satisfaction if they manage to upset people. Basically they are sad sacks.

Who wanted to know what a WUM was ? It is some prat who enjoys winding people up (not unlike a Troll I suppose ) "Wind Up Merchant" (not sure why they are called 'merchants' - do they sell wind ?).

I think I'd better retire to my flea pit.......

WUM = Wind-up merchant. Of course it is! Doh! I hate them. But I've been guilty of it myself, in a teasing way

If we could capture all habitual WUM's and Trolls, I would imagine they all share similar genetic defects.

Re: Why do you think Trolls Troll?

There's a fine line between a WUM and a Troll and a subtle difference. In my opinion, a WUM likes to cause a bit of disruption but will take as good as they give, a bit of banter really; whereas a Troll loves to get everyone else involved in serious argument and doesn't care if members get upset and leave the site. I suppose Trolls are nastier than WUMs.

I was told once one of our resident trolls couldn't leave his computer in case I posted, after a visit to the loo would stumble down the stairs shouting I'm not letting her get away with that. It's an illness IMO a terrible all consuming illness to be a wum.

I hadn't thought of it like that but you could be right.

Re: Why do you think Trolls Troll?

It's easy to find a WUM, when ten folks sit down, and nine of them habitually agree with each other for fear of ridicule or whatever, and one of them dares to question, you have found the WUM. Strange though coz folks seem to feel a level of sadness, when the WUM goes home.

The problem seems to be when a WUM falls "off their trolley".
