Bottles and tins

I've been searching online for a devise to help with opening bottles, in particular the child safe ones. I couldn't open a bottle of bleach yesterday because I don't have a strong grip and trying to press the sides in and turn the cap at the same time was too painful for my hands.
Also I find it impossible to open tins with a tin opener.
I manage the lift up ones with a fork but I can't turn the tin opener.
Has anyone go any devises they can recommend please?

Twiz, you want one of the disability type shops for gadgets to help with jobs like this. Is there one near you?
Have a look a this one, but there are many more. Even Age UK might sell something suitable.

Re: Bottles and tins

I have the same problem TessA
My hand swelled up last week and I couldn't move any fingers, even without this I can't manage bottle tops and bleach
I always ask Fabs but there will come a day maybe where I will have to find something to help me
I do have a gripper thing which is handy for tops - its circular and flexible to grip different sizes

Thanks girls, I wonder if the bottle openers squeeze the sides in for those child safety tops? I'll have a look in the shops in town, if there is a specialist one, I like to try things out, then I'll buy something similar online as it will probably be cheaper.

You don't need a device for these TessA all you need is a friend with a utility knife and a good grip, tell him (her) to hold the top on a firm surface and cut down the side with the utility knife a few times.

You will then find you can press the outer plastic bits off and amazingly inside is a good old fashioned screw top that any one can use.

I do this with all my 'child proof' tops. Utility knifes are safe if used correctly but you do need to hold the work securely so don't try it yourself if you have a problem in that area.

An electric tin opener that works now you've got me stumped, we can put a man on the moon but I haven't yet found an electric can opener that works, or a manual one for that matter

I don't have anyone to help Losos, unfortunately, until I find a bearded gentleman with muscles.
It's not the tops that are like the ones on medicines bottles ( I once drilled a hole in the top of disinfectant with one of those on) that I'm having trouble with its the ones you have to squeeze at the sides and turn.

Ooo lots there Patsy! I wouldn't need a tin opener if Heinz would put pull lids on smallest size baked beans!
The next size up is too big for one and I only eat them about once a week. (Just as well they make me musical!) they usually go off if I try to keep half in the fridge.
