Meter cupboard.

My gas meter cupboard has been damaged beyond repair.

I've been on the 'My Builder' site and asked for estimates to supply & fit a new one.

I've had one response so far -£150

Does this sound like a reasonable price to pay?

Re: Meter cupboard.

They tell me the meter cupboard is my own responsibility & I can buy one from a hardwear store.
My husband has Alzheimer's and can't do DIY anymore so I am forced to employ a handyman to install it.

I just wondered if the price quoted sounded reasonable.

I was going to say don't the meter people have a responsibility for it ? If ours falls off I would expect them to fix it.

Are we talking about an external meter box Carol? What has happened to yours, do you have a photograph? If it is an external meter box built into the wall then it would be impossible to replace the whole thing without removing the meter and some pipework, so it isn't a handyman job unless you can just replace the external parts. Without knowing the details it is impossible to give any indication of cost, but I would think you really need to ask a Corgi or Gas Safe registered engineer for advice.

Seems a bit dear if it's as easy as this video suggests

Re: Meter cupboard.

Why does it need a box?

Our gas meters like our water meters are just outside in the open. Save yourself the money the meter is not yours so why worry?.

Actually that's a good point at our caravan all our meter has is a little roof to protect it from water from above. A little shelf really.

Re: Meter cupboard.

I think you need to determine which type you have Carol. Someone I know had a similar problem and managed to buy one online for about £30. She fitted it herself although I don't know what was involved.

Have you asked about this before or am I getting deja vu again.
