Compulsory in Russia as well I believe. That's why so much of the youtube footage is from there.

One thing to bear in mind is that the dashcam records not only own car performance, but also driver reaction, so mind your language - it may be held against you .....

This clip is the reason I bought a dash cam.

Re: Dashcams: Drivers' footage leads to prosecutions

People, in general, who use dash cams always seem to assume collisions/bad driving is someone else's fault, I wonder how many folks would divulge footage of their own motoring indiscretions.

If you look at dashcam footage on youtube you will see loads of self incurred accidents

Re: Dashcams: Drivers' footage leads to prosecutions

Everyone should be getting dashcams now imho.

I have 2, installed front and back, both hugely important. No point having one just pointing forward when some idiot on a mobile phone rear shunts you.

There is also a rising trend of fraudulent people deliberately walking into the path of cars as they leave car parks and shopping outlets etc

They know the cars aren't travelling at a speed that will hurt them but they pretend to roll over onto the bonnet and then onto the road and demand ambulances and the like. It is of course an offence to drive away from any such collision.

There's no point having to be in the situation of trying to assert that the person deliberately walked into the car. A dashcam will show exactly what they did very adequately and thereby protect you.

There's a compilation of really dumb attempts by fraudulent pedestrians to pretend getting hit here;

More here, very funny but one driver is severely pee'd off about the fraudulent antics of one guy and gives him a good kicking

Re: Dashcams: Drivers' footage leads to prosecutions

Dashcams are a bit like Kung Fu. Geezers were talked into getting Kung Fu lessons, back In the 70s, just in case they were attacked. Most had never been attacked in their own life span, C'est la vie.
