Real technology?

'Technology' - I googled it - The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry.

How did you arrive at the figure of 99%? I understand that 67.3% of statistics are made up on the spur of the moment, but 99% sounds an unlikely result.

Does information technology need bridges?
That is my dilemma.

A slightly confused post imo.

Forum posts are merely content not technology.

The forum itself is just a set of software residing on various computers which are connected to the internet.

The technology is the hardware equipment that forms all the nodes that make up the internet and the computer servers which companies use. I agree that not must has happened by way of improving technology in this space. The mobile comms sector has fairly rapidly taken us from 2G to 3G to 4G and onward in terms of technologies and smart phones keep improving in terms of power ability and portability.

What I think has happened at this juncture in human history are 2 specific things.

Firstly, most of the new innovative technology is being kept from the public and remains in the domain of the military and defence security. People would be astonished at the weaponry that has now been developed. For example they have immensely powerful microwave beam transmitters for extreme crowd control. They can, from a sizeable distance, direct this beam at people and it has the effect that would be seen if you put your head in your microwave. Your fluid in and under the skin boil and leave you with awful injuries if not death.

There have also been huge steps in surveillance both in term s of satellite imagery but equally in terms of widespread use of RFID chips and tracking stations. They can track you everywhere you go.

The second major advancement and focus has been on the use of software rather than hardware technology advancement. We have witnessed an era where huge effort has gone into using available software development technologies to develop innovative and controlling applications. These range from the various social media sites to invasive tracking software that keeps tabs on everything you do. It also includes the colossal explosion of online gambling outlets, casinos, bingo, poker and so on, all one enormous corrupt $trillion business using software as its primary technology.

There ARE lots of new technologies but the primary aim is to generate profits because we are currently in a world where to survive, and maintain any degree of power, individual groups have to amass wealth.

We have an entire financial industry now that is riddled with software portals that are designed to take money from ordinary people and transfer that wealth to the corrupt financiers. This takes the form of the stock market brokers, money lenders, masses of forums and chat rooms run by corrupt boiler room stock promoters and various supposed independent stock brokers regularly pumping out reports on stock companies with info that is horribly over-hyped.

Technology for the good of mankind has currently taken a back seat. Everything is now about making $billions.

There is a battle going on to secure the foundational basis for the future car industry. Electric batteries, of various types for hybrid cars and so on. Lithium vs Cobalt, hydrogen cells and so on.

In summary I think I'm in agreement with your overall sentiment. We've lost the focus on great technology that aims to improve things for mankind. Instead we remain hell bent on making money.

Re: Tech on this forum

True, the 'Technology' forum topics are often about the Internet and the devices that enable people to use it. Personal computers, household electrics/electronics, tablets, phones etc. These are maybe all fairly technological topics that people regularly want to talk about.

That doesn't mean to say threads about other types of technology couldn't be started here though. I'm not sure how popular they would be but maybe try starting some.

There's also the 'Science and Environment' forum where topics of a technological nature might find a home. I don't think the forum is too strict on what can be posted and where.

Re: Tech on this forum

It seems my post about tech has got the geeks stirred up a bit,l maintain that the majority of references regarding so called tech on this forum concern frivolous gadgets which are only produced to entice money out of gullible people's pockets in return for minor increases in convenience, l agree there are some benifits to the human race from these gadgets, but none of which have much effect on the real lives of people. As pointed out by some contributors to the forum, the real technology is the hardware not the software, which is only the means of manipulating it,something like the driver of car.Do many software developers actually know how the computers &other forms of hardware actually work, and do they care?Regards,Donkeyman PS.l have only been trying to operate a laptop for the last 5 weeks and appear to have survived for over 80 years ok.
