No one has died from a spider bite in Australia since the antivenin was invented in the 50s (I think it was the 50s). there are only a couple of spiders that are dangerous the Redback and the Funnel Web. There is a common garden spider called a White Tail which is suspected of causing flesh necrosis but that is a subject of controversy

My garden is full of Redbacks they don't trouble me I don't trouble them, they have lived in my garage door for nearly 40 years (I know because their egg pods are very visible) - BTW the first reaction of a doctor to a spider bite is usually to wait and see what happens.
