The moon - The sun

I've been pondering again ...........
Why do we say 'the' moon 'the' sun ?
When we don't say 'the' Venus - the Saturn etc .........
Bette didn't say 'Lets not ask for Moon - we have stars'
did she - no - she used the word 'the'
Curious is all ............

I suppose we don't refer to 'heaven' or 'hell' with a 'the' either!!

Perhaps because 'moon' and 'sun' are mere nouns whereas the planets have proper names?

Moon (or sun)is not a proper noun there are could be several moons so by putting "the" in front it makes it a proper noun.

Surely 'the' does not make it a proper noun? As I understood, a proper noun has to start with a capital letter, which all the planets' names do.

Imagine, if there was no 'the' before Moon how ridiculous songs about the moon would sound!
'Fly Me To Moon' doesn't have the same ring to it, at all!!
