MIY - Make It Yourself

Do you make anything yourself, rather than buying it?

I make things like homemade yoghurt and liver pâté

Re: MIY - Make It Yourself

I make cumquot marmalade and lemon marmalade from trees in my garden and I pickle chillis but always end up with far too much.

Also make my own laundry liquid so I can use the water on the garden in times of drought.

Years ago I made my own beer but not any more

I design and make greeting cards, make clothes, make my own bread/cakes/biscuits and batch cook all sorts of goodies for the freezer.

Re: MIY - Make It Yourself

Much of our clothing and soft furnishings have been made by me and the late Tasha, I bake and Grace enjoys making biscuits and things, we make the dogs food and their treat biscuits ourselves. We upcycle a fair bit too, Just picked up a foot stool from a skip and about to tear it apart to change the look and material it is covered with. And I have a lampshade in production at the moment, found a lovely fabric and an old lampshade skeleton and am building it back up to look rather good IMO.

Re: MIY - Make It Yourself

We grow as much of our fruit and veg as we can, so that gets prepped and stored or frozen if we can't eat it straight away.

In the kitchen:
I make all our jam and much of our chutney, piccalilli and pickled veg.
Bread is made from scratch (no machines involved!).
I often make yogurt.
I don't remember the last time I bought ready-made soup, as that's another on my list.
I've recently tried making soft cheese, which was pretty successful.
Cakes, pies, pastries and biscuits are all my own, too.

Around the house:
I make all our soft furnishings - curtains, cushions, duvet covers.
Do all my own decorating.
Paint occasional watercolours (I'm not very good - yet!) and frame them.
Make Christmas cards and gift tags.
Make bunting from scraps of material.
Occasional knitting, crochet and dressmaking.

Is that enough do you think?

Wow, what do you do in your spare time, Deb W?!!

I make apple pies/crumble with apples from my neighbours tree and make a few soft furnishing with material picked up in charity shops or car boots - that's about it!
