My allotment

Has been to wet and cold for the last month to do any work.

But it's Feb

Parsnips to be planted.

Onions... to wet at moment

Next week first earlies but at least a foot down

3 weeks time maybe Main crop.

A month's time carrots..... beetroot.

Am looking forward to a new year of hard work and eating the food I have grown.

Not looking forward to the two bully ignorant morons on the site.

Re: My allotment

Already got my Hollow crown parsnip seeds ready to go in,a great Victorian favourite.

An old tip I learned from an old timer, about sowing carrot seeds, sow some beetroot seeds, and if they grow, then the soil is warm enough to germinate the carrot seeds!

Got my Sturon onion sets ready for planting, and trying some "Snowball" onions this year.

As always,my Kalsae onions are doing well in the greenhouse, as per the old fashioned way, started on Boxing day.

It's an old filled in gravel pit does drain very well but dries out badly in the summer.

Dig down two foot and you get a bit of clay.

Re: My allotment

I don't have an allotment but a lot of my veg comes from one. We have a couple of horses and give several allotment holders free bags of well rotted manure.

I very often come home to a bag of fresh veg on my doorstep.

Planted my Main crop yesterday but 2 foot down should be all right if no late frosts in May will bank up end of March when shoots show

Planted some Onion sets, the ones I planted in Oct were a disaster lost 3/4 of them.

The Garlic and Elephant are doing well hope for a very sunny summer for them.
