Have you noticed how many web sites keep getting updated?

Azz is about the only site owner that doesn't I have to say

Seems to me that programmers just can't stop fiddling with what works ok, even Microsoft
Have they not heard the expression "if its not broke don't try and fix it"

There is one site I go on who have just done an updated and made it far worse. instead of getting to the page quickly I now have to jump through 6 or 7 hoops to get to the same thing

It was the same when we had the kennels, I asked several programmers how many end users did they consult before altering/ building their program . Each and everyone said they never consulted, or even thought about, asking those who they want to use their program.

I don't know what they get taught in schools but it certainly is not asking the end user first what they want to see or how easy to use first

That's very true Tara, I have found very few sites that haven't suffered after being tinkered about with. I regularly visit the Vue Cinema site, it used to be very easy to navigate and read; Until they updated it, you can hardly read the information now after adding a darkened background....

I wonder whether this may be related to how supermarkets are always moving things around.

I understand that it is to encourage shoppers to look at things that they hadn't intended to look at, in the hope that they'll buy things that they don't really want!

I dislike long, complicated forums with many stickies and lots of sub-forums. I'll usually avoid them.
