Re: Leeks! (and other annoying food shopping items)

Thanks for the recipe ideas. Freezing is a great option too of course, but I simply object to paying £1.50 when I just want one leek. I was considering Asda as the next step. It's just a bit of a trek to get there and sis in law had her handbag swiped in the car park. My local tesco has discontinued loose leeks

Who? Me or Judd?

I might be later in the year - I have a friend who lives in Conwy.

Re: Leeks! (and other annoying food shopping items)

Sainsbury's sell Leeks loose as do most supermarkets so you either missed them or need to go to bigger stores.

Either way, for me personally, leeks have become a problem vegetable. I used to buy them regularly, love them, but the suppliers are now being stupid.

What they are now doing is leaving a ridiculous amount of the top green leaf part on the leek. It used to be just a small amount, but more recently it has been almost an entire half of the vegetable. Selling by weight that just means they are engaged in fraudulent activity, selling you the part that most people cut off and throw away.

It's really poor and I can only assume there have been issues with leek crops just as there were issue with the supply of courgettes last year.

Either way I hardly bought any leeks at all last year.

Plenty of other great veg to buy instead of these ridiculius leeks.

I've started to buy all my veg at the local farm shop. You can buy just what you need and not a plastic bag in sight.

Realist i have found Sainsbury's are doing something similar with broccoli. They leave a massive heavy stem on the loose veg. It's a really cheeky way to charge more. I'm sure the stem can be used but i always bin it.
