In the 2016 referendum the people should have been given the different options of leaving that have since then appeared.
Now UK representatives started negotiations unprepared, worse, they thought they could cherry pick. In that they believed what some of your politicians had told to convince voters to make a choice for either of the two options.

There is a deal negotiated, which took two years, with assent from the EU and the british government.
If this pm, or her successor, put a deal together acceptable to the people, it will have to be negotiated with the EU. That takes time.
Probably the EU will grant another extension, but:
The end-date of the transition period is set, and cannot be moved. So extension past that date is impossible.
There was absolutely no need for any deals to be associated with quitting the EU. In fact trying to negotiate anything until the door had been closed and bolted. Only then should trade relations and all else be commenced.

Morning DM, One can only hope this does indeed happen. Theresa May has sold her soul to the devil. She cares nothing for the 17.4 million people that voted to leave. Ignore her plaintive, constant whinging about doing what the British people asked for. The woman has no morals, no respect for democracy and no scruples.

She has at last finally sussed that she is a dead duck as PM, but rather than be remembered as the worst PM this country has ever known, she is determined to limit the damage she has caused no matter what betrayal is involved, to attempt to get Brexit through, before she is booted out, and if that means utter betrayal over the original Brexit that we voted for three years ago, so be it.

The woman is an absolute disgrace.

We were given the options... In or out. We voted out btw.

Then you will be happy to know that is the present state of things. The EU will only negotiate future trade relations after you signed the withdrawal deal. Closing that deal is necessary to end current obligations.
Negotiations on future trade close in any case by the end of the transition period, being december 31, 2020.

Then we need to walk away. The first rule in any negotiation.

Agreed. But first sign the withdrawal deal and get out of the EU. At the start of the trade negotiations you can demonstrate your prowess in negotiating by walking out.

The action of signing the WA as you well know Solly merely
ties the uk to paying a large sum of money for the priviledge
of leaving eu, it serves no other purpose! lf it made the
payment coditional on concluding some sort of trade deal
it might make a bit more sense?
