Pies

Now then, Wigan is said to be the home of the pie eater, but what other towns or areas are well-known for their consumption of pies, or the amount of bakeries you have.

At one time there was a pub on almost every corner, but these days, Wigan has a bakery on almost every corner.

So, what are the names of the pie shops in your town, and which pies taste the best?

Re: Pies

Mollie darlin' - we have Greggs Bakery here - several branches of it - not only do they make and sell pies and pasties, they make magnificent doughnuts too!!

All the supermarkets sell packets of Cornish pasties, but I am quite partial to a cheese and onion pasty and often heat one through for my 'tea'.

Re: Pies

I can't abide Greggs! It smells of grease as you walk past and I cant abide bright yellow pastry!
It's very rare that i'd eat pie because of the pastry for one and the revolting consistency of pet food as filling. I tried a scotch pie recently and it was like looking at congealed grey snot in rock hard biscuit like pastry... yuk yuk! The only filling i'd ever be inclined to go for is chicken & leek.

I can't stand Gregg's either, and I can't abide pre-wrapped pies or pasties. There's nothing nicer than smelling them baking in the back of a shop.

Mollie darlin' - our Greggs bakery does have ovens in the back of the shop and they bake on the premises. Am particularly fond of their Cornish pasties - really spicy!!!
