Iran has no plans to quarantine cities, Rouhani says

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-mid...eporting-story
Iran has no plans to quarantine any cities and towns despite the spread of the new coronavirus outbreak across the country, its president has said.

Hassan Rouhani told a cabinet meeting that health authorities would continue to "only quarantine individuals".

Officials have asked people not to go to Qom, the centre of the outbreak, but have not shut a shrine in the city that attracts millions of Shia pilgrims.

Iran has reported 139 cases and 19 deaths in the past week.

The country has also been the source of dozens of cases in neighbouring countries, including Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman and Pakistan.
Health experts have expressed concern about Iran's decision not to restrict access to the shrine of Hazrat Masumeh in Qom.

Its custodian has insisted it should be kept open as a "house for cure".

"House for cure means people would come here to get cured from mental and physical diseases," Ayatollah Mohammed Saeedi told Jamaran news website on Wednesday. "Therefore, it should be open, and people should be encouraged to come here."

Not just "statistics" on a "scale", but countries, people, families .....

Current trends and analysis:

With a declining trend in China and a sharp increase in cases outside of China (where the outbreak is still in its initial stages), it is critical to analyze the two trends separately.

Re: Chinese Coronavirus

Whether we like it or not, the covid-19 virus is loose in the world. It is far, far too late to stop it. Even if we could corral it and have the feeling that is was under control, all it would take is for one infected person to sneeze on the London tube or on the N.Y.C. subway system, and we are, once again, in big trouble.

Imagine how difficult it would be to try and identify and to locate that single infected person. In the meantime, he/she has infected Lord knows how many others ?

Just like the annual flu season, the covid-19 virus is here to stay. However, the covid-19 is many times more deadly than the flu. The big question now is will the covid-19 virus become semi-dormant when the weather becomes much warmer ? Time will tell.

Saudi Arabia has stopped foreigners from entering the country for religious visits, including to the two holiest sites in Islam - Mecca and Medina.

Millions of people go to the country throughout the year for Umrah with a big surge in visitors during the Hajj pilgrimage.

It's unclear if Hajj, which is due to begin in late July, will be affected.

The country has also barred visitors from countries where the new coronavirus has spread.

Saudi Arabia has no confirmed cases of the disease.
A bold, but (probably) effective decision .....

Re: Chinese Coronavirus

Scottie from marketing has taken decisive action.

The Federal Government has extended its coronavirus travel ban for another week amid fears a COVID-19 global pandemic will soon be declared.

The Prime Minister has also announced Australia is activating an emergency plan to deal with the outbreak of the coronavirus, amid expectations a global pandemic will soon be declared.

Scott "Where the bloody hell are you" Morrison said the virus had spread rapidly outside of China, which had prompted his Government to elevate Australia's response.

"We believe the risk of global pandemic is very much upon us and as a result, as a government, we need to take the steps necessary to prepare for such a pandemic," he said.

The ban means foreign nationals who have been in mainland China are not allowed into Australia for 14 days from the time they left China.

The scope of the emergency response will be escalated according to the spread of the disease. In the worst case, that would include:

Cancelling large gatherings
People having to work from home
Elective surgeries being suspended
Intensive care bed numbers increased
Mortuary services prioritised
Aged care homes locked down
Childcare centres closed

Re: Chinese Coronavirus

Fascinating video by a scientist who examines why some things go viral and what affects this.

It's a bit long and a bit dry but worth watching to the end.

WARNING contains maths.
