Re: SVT'S and Cardiac Ablation.

Thanks for explaining; I'd never heard of it. Personally, although surgery scares me, I think I'd rather have it over and done with rather than keeping going to A & E.....

Same here, Michael. Is a hospital stay required?

Re: SVT'S and Cardiac Ablation.

No. It is just a day appointment. I also have another appointment at my usual cardiac clinic, next month. But I don't hold out much hope there. The doctor I see inspires no confidence whatsoever. Everything he suggests, is prefixed by "Do you think", and ends with "is that alright".
When I described a quite alarming sympton I sometimes get, namely mild fainting spells. I just got a stupid grin out of him.

Re: SVT'S and Cardiac Ablation.

This sounds like the Wolf,Parkinson White syndrome which is where the extra nerve shorts out causing the heart to race.

I have it as most fitness fanatics(I used to be) have. I was told that they could burn the nerve out and that would cure the problem.

Downside was, as my 'extra nerve is close to the synode they could quite easily burn the synode out by mistake and I would finish up with a Pace maker for the rest of my life.

As it is not really life threatening I decided to, it's not broke, dont fix it.

When mine shorts out, if it does not correct itself in a few hours then I have an ovenight stay in hospital. They stop the heart and then restart it, thats it.

I have lived with if for over 20 years now with no problems,(fingers crossed) the choice is yours so good luck with the op.

Re: SVT'S and Cardiac Ablation.

I have atrial Fibulation with flutter, I had Warfarin for about a year but suffered a few bleeds so had to come off it.I believe you can have a shock to stop and start the heart again but I have had this too long it seems. Also my age may have something to do with it.

Well. I got home from Scotland this evening, to find a letter from the hospital, postponing my appointment with the cardiac clinic next month......until February next year.

That's unfortunate - did they give you a reason why?

They just say "following a change in the cardiology clinic" which could mean anything.

Re: SVT'S and Cardiac Ablation.

Michael, try calling the cardiac's secretary to bring it forward. I got the same with the chest specialist, my appointment for August was changed to January 2012. I got her number from the main hospital and she brought it forward to September and told me she is glad when people phone her to do this as she is unaware. In my case the doctor was unavailable for 2 weeks this month and the main booking clerks just shoved everyone forward, although how I got shoved forward that much I haven't a clue? Good luck
