There's no adequate translation for chutzpah. It's best explained by the anecdotal case of a young guy on trial for murdering his parents and begging for clemency because he was an orphan.

Well there's chutzpah, and there's bloody chutzpah.

An article in the NYT describes what looks as if a fraud of astronomical extent has been perpetrated by a business set up by one Elizabeth Holmes.

"A recent filing by Ms. Holmes, which was joined by Mr. Balwani, who goes by Sunny, outlines a possible defense: put the government on trial by claiming that regulators improperly brought actions against the company for its blood analysis technology."

This relates to the placing of Holmes on trial for a huge fraud concerning her company and a doesn't work machine that was supposed to offer a groundbreaking advance in blood tests.

So she's claiming innocence and damages because she was prosecuted.

She certainly conned some big names didn't she, Rupert Murdoch for one.

"If convicted, Holmes ― once lauded as the youngest self-made female billionaire ― could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and fines of $250,000, plus potential restitution, on each of the 11 counts against her."
