Re: Is the world getting too crowded?

Cruise ships will flourish until one of them gets caught out
in a real storm and gets surprised by a gale abaft the beam!
The force applied to the side of one of these floating
skyscrapers must be unbeleivable, and just looking at one
the proportions are not confidence inspiring?
If they ever get a situation where the ship cant turn its
head into the wind, we are set for a major disaster!
At present they are just juggling with the weather and
seasons in different parts ot the world!
I am a great beleiver in Sods Law which states that if it
can happen, it will! At the worst possible time!

Best Regatds Donkeyman!

Depends where you go. Where I grew up in Scotland, the nearest house to ours was about 200 yards away. Our local town was six miles away and that had a population of under 4,000.

I think that would hardly be classed as overpopulated.

Nope, lots of room for everyone. It's just that a few people hoard land and money.

But the footprint that each of us makes that must be considered.

What acreage of agricultural land we need, what marine life we consume, what polution we cause, what effect we have on pristine environments and so forth.

You have a good point there Tessa! Just look how much
land is required for the royalty?
But longdogs also has a point? Just look at a satellite
image of the uk at night and you can see that even the
midlands and north england are ptetty much covered with
city blink? In London one cant even see the stars at all?
UK is very small andmust be near its limit allready if all are
to have a reasonable quality of life!
Dont we also need natural areas for us to thrive, or are we
above the natural way of things?

It's not our level of welfare that is the problem. Problems arise when everyone wants the same level.
Look at china, working hard to economically catch up. And then we warn them not to pollute the environment, after we did the same for decades to achieve our economic welfare?
China was closed to the west for centuries, so we were not able to steal their natural resources, which enables the chinese to use them theirselves now.
Africa, which we plundered for centuries, is not capable to utilize their remaining resources. But they see our wealth, which their forefathers paid for, and are coming here to get their share.
Overpopulated? No. The problem is how people and resources are divided, and the uneveness, the inequality of the divide.

What you describe as per exploitation of our planet is true but the bottom line is that there are far too many people and our environmental footprints are too much for our planet to support. One way or another there will have to be a cull.

Agree we don't have the infrastructure to maintain all these changes and people and services .

Watching the return of Liverpool FC yesterday. The streets lined with people the whole of the route and City council estimated 750,000 people turned out.

Liverpool population is approx. 500,000 so since 2004 we had approx. 59 million, now we have 66 million.
How many cities the size of Liverpool is that ? I've lost count.

Why do people moan when they can't get a doctors appointment ?

Agreed mate....and loads more boat people have arrived in the last few days, who will obviously take precedence over our own as usual.
