Re: Sense of humour?

I feel that our sense of humour is slowly being eroded. Things that we found to be funny once are no longer allowed as the `right-on` politically correct lobby stamp on anything they deem to be anti this, anti that or appear to phobic against certain members of society. The new `comedians` are happy to eff and blind to their heart's content or slag off people who don't share their views or political leanings. Chuck acid over someone? Ho, ho, ho.... excuse me, I feel my sides may have split from laughing.

Tommy Cooper could walk on stage, and have the audience roaring with laughter, without even speaking,

Amazing!

Re: Sense of humour?

Sometimes I wonder what is wrong with me , because when I watch a so called funny comedian or programme I'm sat in front of the TV po faced and wonder why people are laughing on the TV.

Then last week I watched a film called the secret life of pets , I was laughing so much at the humour , I loved it . Yet I have a good sense of humour, I can laugh at myself and others but so called funny TV and comedians leave me blank

I agree, Susan. Watching comedians on stage leaves me cold, as I am expected to laugh and be entertained. I'm not.

But having a conversation with others, when someone throws in a one liner to lighten things up, or suddenly get a glimmer of a phrase used that can be interpreted in a naughty way, then pointing it out is my idea of good humor. I also laugh more at myself than to poke fun of others.

Ah, Yes. And Jimmy Edwards in Whacko!!. I used to like the Will Hay films. American comedians? No really. One or two maybe. Jack Benny, Laurel & Hardy, Bob Hope. Though Stan Laurel and Bob Hope were Brits.

I love scathing satire and equally, daft visual humour
I laugh a lot
Even in my sleep!

One of my favourite programmes on telly is Would I Lie To You
That seems to have it all
I love it

Re: Sense of humour?

I also think American humour is much more developed than it used to be. They have learnt the art of laughing at themselves in the way older civilisations have been doing for years. I love our own British self-depreciating wit

One of the funniest films I've ever seen is The Role Models
It still has a few American cringey bits in it but blimey, I was nearly sick from laughing at it.
If you haven't seen it put it on your list of Not To Be Missed

Me too Rhian - I've only recently discovered it because I originally dismissed it as probably one of those 'modern' unfunny comedy shows. I love it though because it always makes me laugh out loud.

Especially when Bob Mortimer is on. The crack in this part of the show where he describes his friend's big head as a sniper's dream creases me up every time I hear it.

Theft and shrubbery.

Watch David Mitchell fall to pieces in this one.

Breaking an egg into his bath
