Lets talk about the eye shall we. . .

I am lucky enough to been born with 2 eyes which have serve me well for 54 years, but heritance has caught up. My right eye has a cataract to come off which I'm on the list to get into see the surgen for. My left, well has been doing this trippy light show of sorts for a couple of week, with lots of 'floaters' which has me thinking there are fruit flies invading my kitchen. With this eye, I'm on the watch for a detatchment of the retina. It may heal (as its done in the past) or may not. The other interesting fact (or a least I've found it so), but my eyes have come to adjust themselves to the right being near sighted and the left far sighted, so I've been able to see somewhat fine for which need I had at the moment. With the cateract being removed, I am have to make the decision at what lens I want them to put in.

Anyone have any experience at either eye condition? I'd really appreciate any personal experience sharing.

Claire I am sorry to hear about your eye problems.
My Dad had cataracts removed from both eyes with a laser (not at the same time) and the treatment was a great success.

Claire, I too am sorry to hear about your eyes.
I do have a cataract in one eye but it is not 'ripe' enough to do anything about yet. I hope others will be able to help and I'll be interested in what they have to say.

The left eye would seem more of a worry to me, and if it was my decision then I think I'd concentrate on getting the best result for the right eye in case, god forbid, the left eye failed to repair itself....

It's hell of a decision to make, and a very worrying time for you ClaireMarie, but may I sincerely wish you every success with your treatments, whatever you decide....

p.s. Everyone I know that has had the cataract operation says it has brilliant results..

Yes, the left eye is the one that is 'bothering' me at the moment as the symptoms change, but nothing can be done to stop what (if) anything happens at this time. With the cataract, I'm waiting for the call to have the 'meet and greet' (Canadian term for meeting with a specialist for the 1st time where you set up the appointment to actually do the proceedure) and this could take up to 6 mos to happen and then the wait for surgery time (who knows the wait time for that!). Yes, I been told that after the cataract is gone, sight is wonderful again. They do wonderful work for detached retinas now too (my brother recently) and I am fortunate to currently live in a city that has wonderful doctors specializing in eye issues.

In which case Claire darlin' - you have no worries at all - good luck with the eye surgery whenever they get round to it for you. After its done you'll be able to see a fly on the wall at a 1000 metres.

Well, the eye is feeling somewhat better today. Noticed the improvement starting yesterday. No flashes for about a week now and the 'floaters' are lessening too along with the puffy feeling. Maybe its healing itself again. 4 weeks till I see the eye doctor for this. Still waiting to hear from the cateract specialist.

I can't wait any longer. I have to know. There is 'something' with the eye showing at the bottom for the past couple of days. My eye doctor is coming in early (8:15am) to have 'look see'. I need to know the worry has me thinking all the 'what ifs' and now the weekend is coming. Those who believe in prayer, add me to your list please.
